Why does my garage door close with a loud thud?

Just recently ive been noticing that when i close my garage door it closes with a loud thud at the end.

what is causing this? is there anything i can do myself to fix it?

A loud thud at ground level is (as was stated by the last fellow) a problem with your door's spring tension - it needs more. Too little tension will cause the door to want to drop as it gets closer to the floor because the springs are not properly holding the door's weight. However, here's a couple things to keep in mind:
(1) Adjusting spring tension can be VERY dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. I would advise calling your local door professional to make any such adjustments - especially if your door has torsion springs (the type that are mounted on a bar directly above the door opening). Torsion springs can easily slip and spin on the torsion bar causing a chainsaw-like effect. Adjusting tension can also create more problems if done incorrectly.
(2) Don't use your door opener too much. Many times homeowners will try and use their door opener with broken springs or with springs that aren't properly tensioned and they can end up ruining their opener. An opener is not intended to lift the weight of a door but, rather, only to get the door in motion while the springs do the lifting. It's a good rule of thumb that if you can't open the door by hand fairly easily you shouldn't try to open it with an opener or you'll risk damaging it.

Garage door opener light doesn't work.?

I have a Legacy overhead door opener from Overhead Door in a house I just bought. There is a light just in from of the motor overhead. There is a wall pushbutton to turn the light on and off, right beside a pushbutton to open and close the door. I think the light should also go on automatically when the door is opened by remote. I think (but am not totally certain) the light worked when I moved in a week ago, but it does not work now. The bulb was burned out so I replaced it but it still does not work. When I push the wall switch, I can hear a faint clicking by the light, like it's getting the signal to turn on. Any idea what's wrong?

There is a switch inside the unit. The wall switch causes this switch to turn on. This switch has burned out. this is why the old bulb was blown. You'll have to find this switch and see if you can find a replacement. If its an older unit it might be hard to find, try the manufacturer and ebay.

can you replace an automatic trans with a manual?

(Jump to bottom for just the question) I had just recently purchased a 2003 automatic trans dodge stratus R/T coupe. While it has the simulated manual transmission with being able to gate the switch over (sort of like a video game with how it works), I would much rather have it manual. I had bought the car used with 12 grand and the thing being in near mint condition with some performance upgrades installed on it so at first the automatic wasn't anything big. However I was stuck with my friends car for a week (2004 Honda civic EX) I fell in love with the manual trans and how much control you have with it (I pretty much taught myself to drive manual that week, didn't really have a choice).

So my question is this, is it possible to switch out an automatic with a manual, how easy is it, and how much does it cost?

It is possible. Depending on where your gear shift lever is located at present will be a determining factor in the difficulty and cost of retro-fitting with manual. If the lever is located on the steering column, then there will be considerably more work to be done on the retro. If it is located on the center console, then it's not TOO difficult a task. All vehicles have the option from factory for manual or automatic transmisssion. The biggest cost, of course, will be your tranny. They can be had (used) from around $400 to new at around $3000. One of the biggest difficulties will be to find a tranny that will actually fit the Stratus R/T. They could be found in used auto parts lots but you're better off checking classifieds (Craig's List for one) and seeing if someone has one. Check with a Dodge dealership to find out what tranny will actually fit.
